Brain Quest: A Matter of Opinion

Instructions: In the first paragraph of Adam’s letter underline everything that is a fact then write your own version using only the facts.

In June 1775 Mr. Jefferson came into congress. His writings were handed around. On the Matter I gave him my vote, and did all in my power to procure the votes of others. This placed him at the head of the committee. I had the next highest number, and that placed me second. The committee met and discussed the subject and then appointed Mr. Jefferson and me to make the draught.

Letter From Ms. S—

Prologue By Damien Knight

When I was younger I stayed in Ten Broeck, a Louisville, Kentucky mental facility. Ms. S was one of the few supportive an encouraging people I had growing up. She wrote the entire letter in all caps and left it on my desk on Christmas day.

MERRY CHRISTMAS! I HOPE YOU HAD A GOOD VISIT WITH YOUR FAMILY TODAY! I’M GLAD YOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE THIS SPECIAL DAY WITH PEOPLE WHO LOVE AND CARE ABOUT YOU VERY MUCH.

(I want to comment that while I am sure my family does love me at that time I felt very abandoned by them. It was very hard to see through my own struggles with depression and dysphoria.)

CONGRATS ON MAINTAINING YOUR LEVEL. YOU SHOULD BE VERY PROUD OF YOURSELF AND YOUR PROGRESS. THANK YOU FOR BEING SUCH A POSITIVE ROLE MODEL FOR YOUR PEERS. YOU HAVE DEMONSTRATED SUCH GREAT MOTIVATIONAL/LEADERSHIP ABILITIES OVER THE RECENT WEEKS.

(I wrote a lot of motivational pieces and poems when I was in. I would read them at the end of the day to the girls during end day group time.)

YOU ARE WISE FAR BEYOND YOUR YEARS AND COULD TEACH THESE GIRLS SO MUCH. I APPRECIATE YOUR WILLINGNESS TO PROVIDE DIVERSIFIED INSIGHT. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

MERRY CHRISTMAS,

MS. S—

Dear Damien

Dear Damien,

I want you to know I believe in you. I believe that you can do whatever you set your mind to. I know that right now the future looks bleak, uncertain, even so you will make it. I know you will, because you are a survivor.

You must always remember to have hope. Don’t ever lose faith or give up hope. You will beat the odds my child. I know you like the back of my hand. You are intelligent, athletic and very strong willed. Yet you are still a hurting babe.

Life must seem like Mount Everest, impossible. This is not so! It is possible for you, that is why this life was given to you and you alone. No other can live your life like you can. No one else can dream your dreams and fulfill them. Only you can my dear child.

Persuasive Letter (BrainQuest Task)

Dear Jeff,

Please come with me to Momo-con. It is going to be great fun. We must cosplay, that’s the best. Cosplay is like dressing up for Halloween but cooler. Registry opens at 9 and the event starts at 10 am. It’s not a competition, everyone goes for fun.
The best part is that you can see your favourite anime characters and comic heroes. People do amazing cosplays of them. The panels are really cool, you get to ask voice actors questions and learn about the characters. You also can see some strange things like, a dinosaur playing DDR or an Army of Pikachus.
I really hope you will come with us next year.

Your friend,
Jayson
