Mushrooms (April 27th, 2018)

I saw the mushrooms growing on the trees
Transported to distant memories
Your golden hair, light airy laugh as we talk
“see these they are…” I continue to walk
How I regret my disinterest now
I thought my heart would heal somehow
But those mushrooms reminded me of you
The tears stain like the rain use to
When we danced and held hands in it
Will I ever heal, will I one day forget?
If you were here my beloved Misty
Would you identify the mushrooms for me?

Fade Away

By Damien Knight

Dropped tears down a crystal face.

I’m glass, a shattered flower vase.

Never allowed my beauty.

You robbed me of my petals.

You stole my shine,

All for your own benefit.

I had aspirations, dreams

You tore each one at the seams

I won’t let you haunt me

I shake away the chains

Of bitter memories

So fade away darkness

I stumbled out bleary-eyed in pink pajamas. My long blonde hair a ratted mess. I could hear mom yelling at the dog.

“No! Bad Ralph!”

My Quiet Place

By: Damien Knight

I looked up the steep, snow-covered hill, and then looked over to my father. He looked tired and drained. I was glad to have him with me. My father was in the Army and he had recently returned from the field and soon would leave our home in Germany for Bosnia. I wanted to show him my favorite place to think before he left.

“It’s just up Suicide Hill, Dad, in the woods that line it. You can see the sunset there and it’s very beautiful,” I said.
