Chart House Waikiki Review

Is there a better way to spend time than to be near the harbor? You have the smell of the ocean, the sound of gulls, and waves crashing the shoreline.  Step inside and be greeted by the sound of a live band and the wafting scent of good food?  Even if this sensory overload is not your cup of tea, the quality of the food at Chart House Waikiki should.

My associates and I had pre-reservations at the restaurant.  It is recommended to make reservations as the place swiftly gets packed making for quite the wait time. You are able to make reservations online at the Chart House Website.  We took a seat, and after reading the menu most of us ordered the evening specials. Food at the Chart House is kept in season, so your red fin tuna may be out of season, sad panda.  The evening special I received was a salad, an entree and a dessert.

 

The salad came with fresh ground pepper being served by the server.  Entrees came out with choice toppings for your potatoes.  The fish I had was moon fish, it was great, easy to cut, and tender.  The asparagus was steamed and tasted okay.  After a delicious dish of fish, I received my pineapple sherbet.  Even though the sherbet seems like a child’s dessert, I was in Hawaii and wanted the pineapple.  The sherbet was interesting, and not too shabby.  I was glad the sherbet was all I got as I was full after my entrée.  The Chart House was a good late night stop, all I can say is much like the rest of the island bring your wallet.  The Chart House is not expensive, compared to others.  I would recommend the restaurant to anyone in the area.

Restaurant Review: El Molcajete

Hello everyone, Damien here and this past Sunday I ate out at a Mexican restaurant in the small town of Russellville, Ky. Now I love good Mexican food and I am really picky about it. I entered the place after having heard rumours of its greatness.

First out was chips. Standard fare, the tortilla chips had a wonderful crunch to them, but the salsa lacked the kick I expect in a Mexican restaurant.

We ate a basket and a half of chips by time the food arrived. We had ordered the burrito verde, a chicken burrito with green salsa. It came with rice and a salad. I did not care for the salad and requested an order for a side of refried beans. The burrito was average. It wasn’t overly spicy. The food overall was about a 7 out of 10.

The restaurant itself was well maintained with clean bathrooms. The service was consistent in checking on us. They made sure we had plenty chips and salsa. Over all the place had a good feel and I would likely go again. A total of 8 out of 10 is my rating. If you live in the area or just craving Mexican food El Molcajete is a good spot to eat.

Tiptastic Tuesday! Samurai: Hibachi and Sushi of Bowling Green

 

This Tiptastic Tuesday is a restaurant review for the Japanese hibachi restaurant Samurai on Scottsville Road. When we went in, we were shocked to find we were the only customers. I think this is because there are two other Japanese places named Samurai on Scottsville Rd. The one we went to was 1713 Scottsville Road, Bowling Green, KY.

We were led to the grill and sat down. I ordered a coke, my son a Dr. Pepper, my daughter a sweet tea. We then looked over the menu. They had a large selection of sushi and informed us they were doing a half off on sushi. I ordered a KY Derby Roll which had crab and shrimp and a Dragon Fly Roll which had eel and shrimp. The kids ordered their kids meal, my son steak, daughter shrimp and I choose a steak and shrimp combo. The waitress took our order and then came back with our soups.

The soup was superb, a clearer soup than at Shogun’s but delicious. The waitress then brings out the sushi and my salad. The wait had not been long, but we were hungry and dived into the sushi. It excellent. The ginger dressing on the salad was just right and not a single sushi remained.

The chef came out and did the standard show. He did a good job and kept us entertained. Once the food was cooked, we dived right in. I would give the place 4 out of 5 stars. It was clean with great staff and good food. The place had an unfinished feel to it though and no other customers. If the décor was improved, perhaps it would be five stars. If you are ever in the area stop in and give them a shot.

Majestic Steakhouse Princeton Review

In Princeton Kentucky, there is a small local steakhouse called Majestic Steakhouse. It is a family owned and operated restaurant with a lunch buffet. I was staying in Princeton during the week of the eclipse and stopped by and give the food a try.

I took my kids to eat for the lunch buffet. The lunch was baked chicken with mashed potatoes and rolls. It was good and cooked thoroughly. The service was slow at first but attentive.

After the lunch, we grabbed dessert. This comprised cake and banana pudding. I grabbed banana pudding. It was very much a homemade style pudding heavy with bananas, wafers and whipped crème.

After eating we paid at the counter. The meal was average priced. I would recommend if you find yourself in Princeton, Kentucky to try Majestic Steakhouse. Feel free to check out their facebook page. Majestic Steakhouse

Great Wall Chinese Buffet

I am going to write a quick review of Great Wall Buffet of Princeton, Ky. The food was mediocre, your average Chinese Buffet but the price was affordable and service was decent. If you are hungry and in Princeton it is an ok place to get some quick Chinese food. They also have a takeout and delivery menu.

The Crab Shack on Tybee

On July 8th, 2017 my spouse and I headed to one of our favourite Tybee beach restaurants. I say favourite but we had only been twice, this being our second time. The Crab Shack is a bayou style restaurant that serves seafood. Its main offering being crab.
We arrived at approximately 6 in the evening. We Approached the hostess station and was seated immediately.

It had been a long day on Tybee beach and I was starving. The menu had several crabs, shrimp and fish options but I was determined to order a “Captains Platter.” This platter was a ‘sample’ platter of boiled shrimp, rock crab, king crab, mussels, crawdads, corn, sausage and potatoes. We ended up ordering a platter for 2 people. My spouse does not eat mussels, so we substituted more potatoes for those.

We were there with our two kids who ordered off the kid’s menu. My son ordered boiled shrimp and my daughter a hot dog. We all got drinks as well. I ordered coke and my partner, he ordered ginger ale. We were parched after drinking salt water all day. I went through 2 cokes before the food arrived. Our server was nice and brought the kid’s food first. When our food came out, we looked at it in astonishment. It was a lot of food.

After eating what we could of our food, it came time to pay. The bill was just over 70 dollars, so not cheap. When we paid we asked for a small bag of gator food. These bags are 3 dollars apiece and have four pieces of gator ‘bait’ to ‘fish’ for gators with. The children were thrilled for the chance to feed gators. Cera went first, then Jayson, and finally Aaron.

Hungry Gators

Now Aaron’s gator was a tiny one. He targeted it because all the bigger guys kept taking the food and we felt bad for the little guy. The little one bit on and he would not let go. Aaron and I both had to pull the cane pole but this guy death rolled as if we would steal back the food. It was pretty cool. I tried to feed a gator too, but my gator was crafty and knocked the food right off the pole.

Out of a five-star system I give The Crab Shack five stars. It is a great place with good seafood and a fun Bayou atmosphere. They have cool lunch specials and great seafood platters. If you stay in Tybee and are hungry, The Crab Shack is a must.

Lighthouse Pizza North: Tybee Island

On July 8th, 2017 my family had the privilege of spending the weekend at Tybee Island. Spending the day at a beach with two young children has a way of making men hungry. My spouse and I debated 30 minutes in fact over food. I, of course, the hangry type told him.

“Throw a rock and pick one.”

His response was “Wendy’s.”

Yeah no, I was not about to be in such a unique place and go to Wendy’s. Sorry sassy twitter red head, I wanted something unique. We drove past Lighthouse Pizza, and I knew that’s where I wanted lunch.

If I were to rate them on a five-star scale, I would say it was four stars. The only reason it’s not five is, the pizza is a bit greasy, and the price is a tad high. When we entered, we went to the register, and they seated us at a booth. From there our waitress came and took our order. We ordered a Hawaiian Pizza and four drinks. For my readers who are unfamiliar with the Hawaiian, it is a ham and pineapple pizza.

The drinks were self-serve, our waitress handed us four Styrofoam cups, and we got our drinks from a drink fountain. I had a coke, which was well about how you expect a coke to taste. The pizza itself was good. We each ate two slices. It was sweet and salty, and a bit greasy. I used a napkin to dry the grease off mine. Over all, I highly recommend stopping in if hungry after a day on the beach.

 

Also the plates were metal, and they gave out forks.
